I've scoured the BC hunting regulations and can find no mention of it being excluded for use on big game, specifically deer, hunting, in BC.

Many States and Provinces exclude anything smaller than .23 caliber for big game, but the .223 Rem appears to be legal in BC. I find the .223 a great gopher and varmint ctg, but wouldn't use it for deer.

The .223 is an excellent cartridge on all NA game including the big bears... particularly on frontal charging shots.

A .223 loaded with a 60 grain Partition or TSX bullet will indeed kill deer cleanly at modest range. Remember it is the bullet that kills not the cartridge it is launched from.

And yes a 22 calibre centrefire cartridge is legal for all big game in BC other than Bison.

Actually any center fire cartridge is good to go on any game animals in BC except Bison... but it would be a fool to take on a grizzly with small cartridges...

Yes that is correct. I tried the 60 grain Partition out of my 22-250 on mule deer after seeing how it dropped wolves like the hammer of Thor. As I expected the deer all died quickly.

I would however be little more cautious using a .17 Remington on moose. LoL

A well selected 223 Remington load has the same or more energy as factory 30-30 at 200 yards. At 100 yards it has 80% of the energy. 30-30 has been universally proven as being sufficient for deer.

I had this conversation with a Conservation Officer last week. At one time there was a 50 grain minimum in place and I was wondering if that was still law but the regs now only say centerfire yes rimfire no.

I have never seen or heard of a 50gr minimum.

Never heard of that and I've looked at the regulations going back 100 or so years.

There was at first a no 22 Rimfire rule (25, 32, 44 rimfire etc were allowed). Then this became a no rimfire for big game at all.

Eastern folks and phone book shooters use whatever they can find to kill the rabid raccoon in their backyard. Sometimes they shoot their own dogs too.

In BC it is legal to use a well suited .224 projectile for small meat bear and deer.

Formulas kill like the "Hammer of Thor!"

I have detected a hint of sarcasm in your replies, hoyt.
Could it be that you are hinting that a 223 is tad sparse for some NA game?
I have shot 223 at inanimate objects, never owned one nor blooded one. Are they not the 'Rail Gun' some would have us believe, LOL?
