Is the BCL 102 worth it?

I know there's been some hype about this rifle.

If you own one would you say that it's lived up to what you expected? And are you happy with its capabilities vs price?

Only reason I'm asking is because I've seen a few for sale recently, maybe it could be people just trying to make a quick buck.

Let me know cheers!

I bought one on the second batch, I'm waiting for it to arrive.

Some people are ok with the stock version, but it seems to have some pains.

Reading the reviews, I have already purchased a new higher quality bolt, a new higher quality brake, a new higher quality charging handle, a new higher quality trigger. (800$)
I will be purchasing a new rail handguard, a new grip, and a new stock (500$)

Many reasons for people to sell, some are not happy with the pains, some are not happy with their expectations, some are looking for a quick buck since supply is low, etc. You have to find your own reasons to purchase something, not by looking at the used for sale market.

I almost jumped in on the first presale, but I glad I stopped myself.

I'm holding out and hoping that the Savage MSR10 gets classed NR. I'm sure the MSRP will of the MSR be higher than the BCL102, but I don't think I'll have to dump a bunch of money at it to get it to run the way I want. Here's hoping anyways...

That's a cool rig, why do you think it's going to be NR?

I haven't been able to find out 100% as there isn't much info on the web other than a few vids, but from what I gather it's built on a proprietary shortened upper/lower. If the upper doesn't bolt up and fire on a standard a10 lower, than there is a chance it might go NR.

If that comes in NR, it will be a game changer if priced right for us.

I am gonna see if this Tavor in 7.62x51 shows up. I have a problem with Direct impingement.

I think for the money they are asking for the BCL102 ... Probably is worth it

Being that was the question

Mine is. Runs perfectly, I changed the stock, muzzle brake, grip, charging handle, and will swap the trigger down the road. I had the grip and stock already, Brake and handle were about 150$ Total. Rings the 600 meter gong every time.

How big is the 600 meter gong?

I don't know. Never got close to measure it. A few feet. Im not claiming sniper precision, just it's consistent enough hammering off rounds as fast as you can get back on target.

I understand what you are saying, but hitting a gong all the time at 600 meters becomes less impressive the larger the gong is

I’ve never really been that drawn to the AR10 platform. I love my ars but have never really given an ar10 much thought. The fact that it’s NR and affordable will probably lead to me getting one down the road. The only 308 semi I’ve ever been interested in is a m1a lol.

The huge aftermarket part availability is also a plus. And it looks like there is going to be lots of different barrel options!( from other barrel makers)

I think that if BCL can get every rifle leaving their shop working perfectly every time and dumps the "match" chamber the 102 is a very good rifle for $1750, but if they continue to let parts out the door that are no good then it's not worth the risk and I won't be buying one.
It's not a sniper rifle out of the box but if you want to you can make it one. I just want it to work 100% of the time the way it comes from the manufacturer without having to buy parts and change things just to make it work. It has a lot of potential.

Well that's shooting as fast as I can get back on target, not going for precision. That was put a smile on my face and have fun shooting.

If you want precision this is my best group, 5 rounds at 100 meters. https://imgur.com/yoRyjEc
I even have a witness for that one.

I was hoping the answer would be yes.
I'm now solid on the No side of the fence though. You pay $1750 for a rifle that may or may not be reliable. Then you have to dump hundreds more dollars into it to replace the parts that may or may not work.
From what I've personally seen, they have potential. Just not in the state NEA has put them out for round 1. Lets see if they fix it for round 2.
I don't think there is a person I've seen yet who bought one and is shooting it stock condition. Some people have even had custom work done and 6.5 Cr barrels made and installed yadda yadda.
To be fair, when the rifle works and once you find a handload that your individual rifle actually shoots, they are decent guns for what they are and I've seen impressive accuracy personally out of them especially with handloads. I have gone out now on two excursions with a friend who owns one. We were hitting a 4' plate at around 600 meters with his handloads pretty consistently. Did experience hard stoppages that were so bad we had to mortar the rifle to extract the case a couple times though.

So I have to say no. It's not worth the money but that's to me. You pay $1750 essentially for a NR AR10 upper and lower. Then you have to swap the trigger, swap extractors, swap barrels, swap bolts etc etc just to make it run reliably. The real trouble seems to be in rifle to rifle consistency. Each rifle seems to be its own odd finicky entity. So on top of all else prior, you are still tossing the dice. Not worth it to me. I was really hoping they wouldn't NEA this one. Fool me twice right.....
Will see what they do for round two.

Lol, Funny that everyone that doesn't have one wants it to be a failure. Any 102 thread is just littered with how terrible the rifle is and all the parts that need to be replaced. If you are having issues, here's a thought, contact bcl about fixing it instead of whining on cgn.

Rant over...

Is the 102 worth it, depends on what you are looking for. If NR, I would say yes as not many rifles in this price range that are also NR. Maybe you will have issues, maybe you won't. Never dealt with NEA so when I get a 102, on second pre order, we'll see how it goes. Worse case you can always sell it.

Some people have shot them, and it wasn't what they were hoping for, or built for their needs.
I wanted it for a semi-precision 308 rifle that will group better than my m305. So far it shows promise, before I swap out the trigger even.

This rifle isn't for everyone, it can't put a checkmark in every category.
