To remove the gas cylinder plug is the gas cylinder wrench a must or can we simply just use the combo tool by itself.

Just wondering what tools I "need" to maintain my m305 on a cheap budget.

Thanks

You really don't need any 'special' tools.

The only thing I use my combo tool for is to remove the plug, but as mentioned, you can use a regular wrench.

Tell you what... send me a self adressed stamped evelope, and I'll send you a combo tool. I have 4 of them sitting around doing nothing! PM me if you wish...

Sorry,
I guess my question was not that clear... I already have a combo tool and I was wondering if the "gas cylinder wrench" was needed to hold the cylinder in place as you put pressure on the gas nut with the combo tool/spanner. Is there any worries of twisting or bending the tube without the special wrench?

Thanks,

the wrench is not so special..
I made one out of aluminum.
just trace the shape you need and cut it out of whatever metal you have.
just make sure to get all the rough edges off so you dont scratch your nice new rifle!!

That wrench you speak of is to keep from twisting and possibly misaligning the gas set up. I made a wrench at work. It isn't completely necessary but I find it easier to hold onto the rifle with it.

I don't think a whole lot of people do use the wrench except for the purists. :D

Truth be told, I've never owned one of those special purpose built gas cylinder wrenches to stabilize my gas cylinder while snugging up the gas cylinder plug. Skullboy made one up for me, but I passed it to another CGN M14 Addic... I mean newbie in a moment of weakness.

All you need is a combo tool (piles of them floating around the CGN community) or you can get by with a 3/8" wrench from the Dollarama/Dollar store.

I'll give ya 3 guesses how much that costs. The first 2 guesses don't count.

Cheers,
Barney
