Is the Knoxx SpecOps stock worth it ?

I have a Remington 870 with the factory synthetic stock and a R3 recoil pad. I don’t mind the recoil from slugs, I think the R3 does a good job at reducing recoil. I have never tried a SpecOps stock so how much better is the recoil reduction compared to the R3?
Money is tight for me so I am wondering if this expense can be justified? Later on I would like to buy for hunting, a 26 or 28 vent rib barrel with removable chokes 3 inch, and this is my dilemma, wither I should just put my money towards the barrel? There is no denying the cool factor of the SpecOps but……………

Thanks for looking,:shotgun:

Personally I say No,
I am trying one out but just can't warm up to it....my personal preference is for wood and to reduce recoil I would go for a Simms pad.
I don't really feel recoil, even shooting slugs all day so the recoil damping is not necessary and I don't like the way the buttstock slides against the cheek to absorb the recoil. Knoxx say to hold the cheek back further to avoid that but it feels foreign to me.

Cheers

Mine works great, and I love the instant adjust ability, so regardless of what jacket I throw on or take off I can make the stock fit me perfect each time.

And the recoil system works great IMHO.

I would never again own a shotgun without one.

Try one out for yourself.

If you don't mind the recoil......why bother replacing the stock?

You are quite right the R3 pad does an excellent job, reducing the felt recoil.

If money is tight and you have no problems using the R3 recoil pad and standard stock.....you may later regret buying something you don't actually need.

If you plan to use this shotgun for hunting, in the near future......it sounds to me that this would be your best course of action.....SAVE FOR A BARREL.:D

My personal tastes, steer me very clear of the Knoxx stock(you couldn't GIVE me one).....honestly, I think your gun is much more cool looking the way it is.

If you are thinking of spending money on it......buy a oversized safety button or better yet buy a set of scattergun tech ghost ring sights........Although the sights may not be usable with a hunting barrel.

P.S. If you do decide to (hope not) buy the knoxx stock.....I'll buy your original buttstock.:)

How could you think of dinking with perfection......Bad boy!!!

I am a recoil wuss, and having tried the Knoxx stock, I love it and am waiting for one to come in for my Mossberg.

Better yet - use the R3 on the Knoxx, and have the best of both worlds!

I had a Knoxx briefly, and it definately reduced felt recoil. Turned it into a big shove, versus a hard slap!

Why would they not be usable with a "hunting barrel"?

I noticed that on my 12.5" 870 the recoil was brutal. Maybe I'm a wuss... the stock takes all the pain out of the recoil.

I find the 18" with R3 pad to be fine for me as well; if I had your setup I'd get one if I could afford it, but not sweat it if I couldn't.

On the little guns it's a mandatory IMHO - they do work and I love mine.

Bramel,
I bought it as a test stock to use for defensive shotgun training. I train approx. 40 people each year, some have never fired a shotgun before and some are either short/small women or recoil sensitive to slugs that we use. I wanted something that could adjust for shorter LOP and also reduce the recoil for those people.....it does work on both counts but it is not my cup of tea. I prefer the look and feel of a wooden set with a 12" LOP.

Cheers

I've been quite happy with my SpecOps:

Its been on my 870 for a little over a year now and - a 1000+ shells later - has never left me regretting the purchase. Admittedly, it is 'different' (both in appearance and function) when compared to traditional shotgun stocks and - as such - not everyone's preference ...but those who do like 'em tend to like 'em a lot.
