Is the muzzle blast from rifles under 11.5 inches extremely annoying?

Hello,

I am looking into getting a short barrelled rifle in the next few months.
I could shoot my 16 inch colt ar all day.

I hear the muzzle blast from short barrelled rifles is pretty strong. Is it manageable or does it get annoying after a certain amount of rounds?

I am eying the dd mk18 or the colt mrr 11.5 inch fyi..

Thanks.

I just put an 11.5 barrel on my ar with a muzzle brake and I kind of regret it. The 16" barrel was more enjoyable to shoot and way quieter. I'm in the process of building an 18" ar and I feel like when I'm done the 11.5 will just sit in my safe. I'll never sell it though because it looks bad ass lol

Really depends on the brake as well.

I had to change my 20" bolt actions brake, where my 11.5 CAR while barky is less punishing. :)

PWS makes blast mitigation device. Both for 5.56 and 308.

Works wonders on my 7.5" in 7.62x39. Still throws awesome fireballs of awesomeness.

If yer shootin from the bench....a short AR can be very annoying...and downright rude to the rest of the line...particularly so if the benches are covered.

Uncovered benches notsobad...and when spread out ....more than 10' apart the issue becomes even less.

They are fun a shell to shoot and watch...big blast/muzzle flash....

Persoanlly/practically any AR less than 14in is needlessly loud/blasty....a 14.5in AR swings/handles and performs great. Anything shorter is only important to those who truly need a rifle that short for CQB, in/out of vehicles and other action.
Even indoors and or CQB a 14.5 AR is very effective/user friendly...and keeps decent muzzle velocity...it is a gopher round afterall :):)

Muzzle blast is my favorite.. Its at least not a brake... but im sure its not fun for people beside me.

Use a krinkov type muzzle device. They direct most of the blast forward, making the SBRs much less annoying for other shooters to be around. My 7.5" ar SBR is not particularly loud from the back or sides. Likely is unpleasant from the front, but noise is the least of your problems from there.
