Is the R5 MilSpec a good buy

5 R

I own a 5R , it has a Falcon Menace on it , Egw Rail and TPS medium rings , I enjoy shooting it and it fit's me well, I have no problem shooting Sub .5 moa groups , Since it's my first Precision Rifle i can't compare it to anything else that I own , I shoot a lot at our local range and see guy's out there with really expensive rifles and mine shoots pretty close to theirs and at 1/4 of the cost, So I am pleased with it ,
The best load i have found so far for my 5R is .175 Gr match Kings , 41.5 Gr of RL15, Remmington Brass, federal gold match primers, i played around a bit with the seating depth but i found that the max overall lenght in the Seirra manual works best in my Rifle , the same with the powder charge , the groups opened up a bit going up a few grains in weight as well as going down a few :sniper:

I have the identical set up to Machinist above ( except for TPS high not medium rings ) and agree that this is a very accurate piece for the class of rifle it is ( 1.834" at 300 yards which put it just outside half MOA ). Mine prefers 175 gr SMK with 43 g of Varget.

I'd shoot it with 168 grain Federal Gold Metal match off the shelf first. Simply to establish a base line of accuracy. This should give you an idea of what the rifle is capable of.

If you don't like the look of it, change it :D

Duracoated by Longshot (bottom metal too, though the flash kind of caught it in this pic), bedded in an mcm a1, swapped out the xmark trigger (which I'm not a fan of) for a tuned old-style rem trigger. Mk4 6.5-20, tps lows, egw 20moa base. Shoots great.
