Is the SIG 542 rifle prohibited

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering if the SIG 542 (.308 version of the SIG 540) was prohibited.

I don't believe they are prohib. If memory serves, TSE tried to get FAMAE to supply the .308 version to no avail.

What was the obstacle? People don't realize how nice a shooter the SG 540 is. I demand an SG 543.

If I remember correctly, despite multiple and varied attempts, including a translated letter passed through the Chilean Consulate, FAMAE don't care to deal with gringo civilians.

How did they get around that to bring in the SAF?

I thought that SAF shipment was mostly thanks to a mistake by FAMAE.

I believe all the SAF rifles were sourced from SAN in Switzerland, not directly from Chile.

B&T bought them into switzerland and apparently they were not supposed to sell'em to the civies.

Yes, Switzerland is pretty damn awesome. I'd recommend synchronizing your trip with the Geneva Auto Salon held there in March. CERN and SAN facilities are a must see!
