Is the SUB-2000 okay for a lefty?

Hey guys/gals,

New to CGN, did a search of the forum but didn't come up with anything.

Anyway, I'm looking at getting a Kel-Tec SUB-2000 as a neat little plinker for myself and the wife. However, I've read that they're not exactly ideal for a lefty, due to the location of the mag release and the location of the ejection port in relation to a shooter's face. I'm not worried too much about gas/powder bits in my face, but I don't wanna be constantly dropping mags accidentally. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks for reading,
Brendan

Yes - I have owned one and since sold it, but I am a lefty and never once got hit in the face with brass. Gas - rarely. As for dropping mags - never a problem.

I can't speak about being a lefty, but I do own a Sub 2000 in 9mm. If you can get one cheap, then buy it. Don't spend over $500 for one. I have both the Sub 2000 and a Beretta CX-4 and the Beretta is night and day better in every way. Very accurate, shoots cast bullets well, where the Sub 2000 for me at least only shoots well with jacketed rounds.
One thing nice about the Beretta, is that it can be changed from right eject to left eject in about 30 seconds, completely eliminating the issue of brass in the face.
I have never in many thousands of rounds ever had a jam or stove pipe in the Beretta, in the Sub 2000 at least 1 or 2 jams per clip regardless of what I shoot through it.
Also, the Sub 2000 does not lend itself to easy installation of optics, where the Beretta is no issue with a top rail.
I still like my Sub 2000 and will eventually sort out why it jams so much, but if I had to sell one, the Sub 2000 would be gone without a second thought.

I shot a guys sub 2k. Got a few burns to the chin but nothing bad

Shot a guys CX storm

I want the storm

....and 2 or 3 stock spacers :)

I'll probably only be shooting jacketed rounds anyway. I've had the pleasure of handling the Beretta, but the price tag for the NR version doesn't exactly fit the budget right now. As for the mag release, that's good to hear. The thought of filing it down or something wasn't one I was willing to entertain.

Thank you both for the feedback!
Brendan
