Is the Type 81 still coming to Canada

wow. i just read in another thread TI submited one to the lab in august 2012.

Dream on. The design provenance of this rifle comes from two other rifles: One is the SKS, and the other is in the "permanently prohibited forever and ever amen" list.

Miramachi is not in the habit of playing nice, reasonable, logical, or fair when it comes to classifications lately. If there's even 1 part on that rifle that can be traced to a prohib, they'll whack it with the giant red X of "variant of" and that'll be the end of it.

I really hope I'm wrong, because the Type 81 is a neat rifle, and I would definitely add it to "the list" of future buys (oh, "the list" - you evil and ever growing mistress). But I don't think I am wrong.

And yes. I'm a grumpy mean old man. Now get off my lawn.

Norinco is actually launching two new civilian versions for the Type 81 called the NR-81S. The one in the picture show in this thread actually has too short of a barrel for Non-Restricted but there is a 18.6" barrel light machine gun version called the NR-81S2 that is still pretty cool. The gun shares no relations at all to the AK-47 other than cartridge and magazine.

I don't want to hear this Norinco doesn't make anything blah blah blah. I don't care what you think you know.

Does not use AK mags - shares zero parts with the AK/Type 56

A semi auto Type 81 has been submitted. Other than that, no one except TI knows anything else of how it looks.

Who wants to bet that this "semi" version was actually built on a modified NOS military receiver, thus sending it right to the "prohib" category à la CZ-858?

It would definitely explain the delay...
