Is there cheap 7.62x39 surplus that doesn't have a bi-metal jacket or a steel core? I just bought an sks after many years of resisting. Got invited to shoot at a bush temporary range and made an impulse sks + 1400 corrosive ammo buy on the way to the shoot. Man is that ska fun! It's also as accurate as I am with open sights at 100m.

The problem is, I can't shoot ammo that will stick to a magnet at my range, and I really don't want to pay a buck a round to shoot an sks.

The only way around steel in the x39 without paying $1/round is to reload it. I picked up some Campro .311 bullets a while ago that were probably as cheap as it gets without casting.

Mild steel jacketed projectiles in the x39 seem to be ubiquitous, and as someone already pointed out, even the 'soft point' stuff tends to contain steel.
