Is there a Cabelas clothing line that compares to sitka?

Cabelas has their new line called Instinct which is layering items from next to skin right out to waterproof shells and insulating layers. I bought the gore tex shell jacket with pants and it seems like excellent kit.

Kuiu is nice stuff but you were asking about Cabelas specifically,

Patrick

Specifically I'm interested in it for cold weather elk hunting in Alberta, up to 15 km off the road. If so, what specific line should Iook at?

ASD

What temperatures will you be hunting in? Everyone tolerates cold temperatures differently.

I'm a Sitka user over BassPro's Redhead gear but after seeing Cabela's Instinct line of hunting clothing I would definitely consider them for my next purchases when the time comes. IMO the Instinct and Whitetail series are quite similar. One reason I chose Sitka is my selection for sizing is greater them BP or Cabela's. I can order Small jackets and 30 waist pants. BP and Cab most times start with Med and 32.

My advice is, if you haven't already, focus on base layers, determine how much stalking you will be doing vs sitting in one spot in the cold and this will guide you to how much insulation you will require. Layering in most hunting situations the key to staying comfortable.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cabela's has so many lines, with new ones coming out each year it seems, and somehow each one is "simply put, the finest hunting wear available". If you must have the camo-pattern-du-jour each year, and wouldn't be caught dead hunting without a matching jacket and pant, then Cabela's products will probably be fine; they have lots of features, and their waterproofing seems okay when new. But in my experience they all seem to be poorly made and simply don't hold up to extensive use. Edges fray, seams pop and unravel, buttons and fasteners come loose and fall off, zippers crap out.

I expect much more than a single year of use from hunting clothing. Obviously I haven't tried every single line they carry...just not enough hunting days in a year for that!...but I have experimented with several and have invariably regretted the purchase a year later. Sitka stuff is much more durable.

I bought some Cabela's Instinct pants for my upcoming elk hunt they are really nice. They were $140 but well worth it. Their whole Instinct line is very good but not quite Sitka quality and fit.

Cheers!!

I have a bunch of Cabelas Instinct line - everything from base layers, to insulating layers, to outer layers and I am very impressed with the quality and performance...especially for the price point - it is reasonable for performance hunting clothing. I use/have Sitka for waterfowl hunting, and it is incredible kit...but it is ridiculously priced in my opinion. KUIU has great pricing and a solid reputation for sure, but I don't own any as of yet (I'm sure I'll somehow manage to acquire some with time).

I bought last year summer the Cabelas MT050 Woodland Zonz parka 7 in 1 and bibs on clearance...saved big $$$. Think I saved 60%. Just lucky they had my size in Edmonton when I stopped in.

The year before I bought the Cabelas Woodland Zonz thin bibs and jacket - both waterproof (Dry Fit Plus) for early season and warmer temps.

why focus on sitka, cabelas or kuiu? is there special needs or camo that mountaineering clothing cannot fit?

^^^^Exactly this. Mountaineering gear is likely of better build quality and cheaper or at the least, the same price. I have bought my last piece of camo gear, I wish I'd spent the money on mountaineering gear instead like I have been doing for the past couple years. Plus I can wear it around when I'm not hunting and not feel like a dork : )

They are made with the finest materials with highest qualities. They are like warm, comfortable and don't take.up a.lot.of.room

A lot of people use them.when. they are going on a two week goat Hunt and that will be there only clothing.

They use military special.forces .material.

Watch the kuiu. Com video great stuff small company trying to make.the finest huning clothes at reasonable prices. ( small.overhead ) Great storey.

The guys who own Kuiu were on the Joe Rogan podcast recently. I was very impressed with their commitment and dedication to manufacturing the very best clothing and gear for hunters on planet earth. Such quality doesn't come cheap, but if you're hunting the backcountry and miles away from civilization, it's a smart investment. The same for quality woolen garments.

that guy is smart for sure ... when they had their stuffs made in BC at the same cost that now and made in China ...

he was the co-creator of Sitka ....

Mountaineering clothing is noisy. While it may work for active mountain hunting, it's crap for still hunting and bird hunting.

some kuiu are very noisy and there is Schoeller fabric that can not that noisy depending on the kind .... laminate fabric will be for sure very noisy whatever the selling brand....

(any fabric where you add any gore, dry or whatever the name in 3 or 4 layers will be noisy.)

some kuiu users are complaining about the noise of some product ....

i have microtex pants and they are great even for bow hunters (no noise and wicking the moisture and small rain) even not stretchable. but that was not the question nor my answer lol ...

special forces are using a huge kind of material that we may not be aware but what i know is kuiu is not starting something new unless you are a camo hype .... and i ve met two times Jason and his team ...

True enough, but since the OP is asking about cold weather elk hunt clothing, Gore Tex isn't necessary nor functional in below freezing temperatures.

Hey all sorry for the late response.

Thank you for the input. Specifically I will be in SW Alberta, foothills/mountainous terrain. As for temperature, who knows. Could be anywhere from +10 to -20 in the same.day, this is Alberta we are talking about after all.

This year my season will mainly be 3-5 days in length, but I'm planning longer Hunts next year and thereafter. So I want something I won't have to worry about. For whatever the price is, Sitka seems to fit my bill. My question was whether or not there are any Cabelas lines that could also suit me well. I'll have to check out the instinct line for sure as that sounds promising.

I would prefer to keep the price reasonable, but I'm also not going another season being miserable, cold, and windburnt because of clothing choice. If I have to pay big bucks I will.

Anything made of wool has worked for generations
I trust wool over anything Else every job fishing or hunting trip I pack is my Stanfield wool shirt it quiet and still warm when wet A cheap pair of wool pants from the surplus store and your set and under a 100 bucks
