I am thinking of going squirrel hunting on monday and am wondering if there is a certain season for this? I don't want to do it illegally?

Those guys are in Ontario, and you're in Saskatchewan. I wouldn't suggest following the laws in their province, look at the regs for where you live and go from there. Game, besides waterfowl, are provincially regulated, so don't go with advice from other provinces, usless specifically mentioned about Saskatchewan.

After looking briefly at the Sask Regs.. The only thing I could find on squrrels is trapping regs. and you can't trap em until Nov 1st. Best to call up your MNR or get your 06 Reg's book. Thought never came to my mind. But yes, your reg's are different from each and every province in Canada.
Better to be safe then sorry ;)

So would I be in deep with the law if I went into the wood in behind my cottage and shoot some squirrels?

Yes. Very possible. Even on your own property you still have to obey the law

Edit to add:

Why do you want to shoot squirrels for anyway? Do you plan on eating them?

Pest control not hunting, I am constantly amazed about hunting regs in your amazing and huge country and here we have so many pests and too few people to shoot them!

Even here in Alberta, they won't issue a pest control licence to trap or poson bait Lieberals! I think there is a draw in the bow and arrow season, though, gotta check the regs!

I thought the Lieberals were long exterminated from Alberta:confused: If that's not the case, they soon will be;) :D

They are one of those protected/endangered species. there is a draw on them but nobody I know gets it. Depends I think on what kind of squirrel, if it's the little red buggers there shouldn't be a problem AFAIK. Grey or black is different, but I think they mostly inhabit warmer more liberal friendly area's of the country, you know, the red parts.

Squirrels are varmint here in Sask and can be shot any time along with gophers, mice, chipmunks ect..
Not much for squirrels in our neck of the woods as there is zero for trees:D
Any that wonder on the ground are pretty much coyote bait.

Cheers!!

Be carefull! If squirrels (the tree climbing variety) are mentioned in the trapping regs then they are not considered pests but fur bearers! To trap fur bearers you will need a trapping licence, and there are probably regulations on the manner with which you may trap them (usually you are only able to "trap by rifle" large fur bearers like bears and cats). The squirrels in ontario that are hunted are Grey Squirrels, the kind you find in most large cities.

Cheers

In BC, the grey's and fox squirrel's are pest's and can be hunted and killed any time!
No open season for the red squirrel at all as far as I can see!!

Squirrels are mentioned in the synopsis only to say that you can use neck snares with out a permit along with rabbits and beaver under the ice.
Squirrels are simply a varmint and no permits licences are needed to hunt or trap them.
Also you do not need a licence to trap all "fur bearing animals in Sask. Foxes, coyotes, skunks, rabbits and racoons as well as beaver in some municipalities may be hunted year round with out a licence by Saskatchewan residents in zones 1-55. (page 6 of the Sask Hunting and trapping Regs 2006)
