I have a M-17 commercial sporter and I would like to swap out the barrel on it to make a long-range rig. Can anyone point me to a list of cartidges based on the .30-06? Hopefully something that lists accuracy performance...
Try the Wolfe publications wildcats books, track down a copy of the Gibbs wildcats, get a copy of Ackley's books (but keep in mind the loading data is fairly optimistic). - dan
If youare swapping barrels, then the list grows to include anything that uses the same head diameter (0.473"), such as the Mauser family, and cartridges based on the .308

I'm not convinced that there is such a thing as an 'inherently accurate' cartridge. It's all in how you set up your rig, and how good you are. If it weren't, you wouldn't still see the occasional .222 beating the PPC's. However, I can see how a short action could be more rigid than a long, but that's a gun thing, not a cartridge thing.
If I were you, I'd look at a 7 mm of some sort. Much smaller, and you should be using a short action of some sort. Much bigger, and you're probably better suited with a Magnum action
