Is there a trick to VZ58 receiver..

cover removal? I pulled out the pin, but the cover will only partially go forward and up, not fully enough to remove.

You should push forward and then up.

I'm totally new to the VZ, does the hammer need to be decocked to remove the receiver cover? How can I tell if it is cocked? How would I decock if needed?

Pull the trigger!

But yeah, you can't pull the cover off if it's cocked, as the striker is holding the cover down.

Verify chamber is empty (PROVE, blah blah) set safety to fire, and pull trigger to 'de-####'.
