is there a wrong way to use a deer call?

The bad part is that my back is killing me, and I think the bars on the sides of the seat have branded my butt for life. "

I'm 75, ok, closer to 76 and use a three legged stool with a backrest, and a cushion called Heat a Seat. Saves your back and butt. Must work, took a doe for the freezer during blackpowder. She came in about 10 minutes after three bleats on the doe call.

Played with them lots. What I've observed is if you are using too deep of a buck grunt even pretty nice sized bucks immediately drop their head and skulk away, as do does. Nobody want's to get beat up and the females want nothing to do with a male till they want a male being my conclusion.

Fawn in distress can (not everytime) bring mule does right to you. WT the opposite.

These are just my personal observations in SE AB.

What do you use for WT does?

No it isn't... with WT and moose, there are times when there is no such thing as overcalling. I have observed both species calling "without" ceasing... in both cases, during breeding activity. I have listened to cow moose bawling for three hours straight without a break, and whitetail bucks and does, vocalizing from the time they walked into hearing range until they walked out of hearing range.

Until a couple yrs ago I lived in S AB, hunted WT in, "the sandhills"(hill, pans, lot's of knee high to 8' scattered brush). Most effective way of hunting WT was literally walk, step on every bush and keep looking behind you as you go, like htg for pheasant without a dog.

Now in SK still learning. This parkland country thinking best bet permenant ground blind, mineral lick, maybe plant some crabapple trees or something. Here they're everywhere but not in great numbers, never in a herd and wherever they happen to be there's food, water, shelter.
If it helps, I think mule are more curious than WT, WT are much more cautious.

I have a 3 legged one as well, (the one in the OP is a four leg) but again no back rest. It's my walk and sit stool, cause it folds up small and makes no noise. Sometimes I can find a tree I can lean against. I sometimes use a foam pad, much more comfy, but they can be very hot, not great for my hemorrhoids.
 
I bought a primo buck roar,first time using it a big 6x6 came roaring in,not sneaking in either. it would have ran right over me if I hadn't shot.
I think timing plays a big part
