Wonder if there is any good red dots with the etched dot that is not dependent on the battery to light up. In case battery goes dead or not the n use

This would be the benefit of a prism scope such as vortex or primary arms makes. They make 1x 3x and 5x However i would like to point out the battery running out fallacy is basically a non issue with optics lasting 1 or 2 years minimum if left on that entire time. You see soldiers on both sides in ukraine using dedicated red dots (mostly holosun which is hilarious in and of itself because of the brand snobbery of some) with absolutely no back ups. I get redundancy and back ups but alot of people will never admit at this point its pretty ridiculous. Youre more likely to have your red dot smashed beyond use and need a qd mount to get it out of the way of your irons, than you are to just have the battery run out without at least several months knowledge that you should be changing the battery before that happens. My 2 cents. Also prism sights have sort of an annoying fisheye lens effect and arent as quick as true red dots in my experience. Id just go with a decent red dot with a long lasting battery. If you're set on a prism, the vortex spitfire 1x and the primary arms slx 1x are two to look into.

Since this will be going on a 22, what about a reflex sight. Is there any with a etched dot in that will light when a battery is on

For some an etched retical is important in certain colder climates the cheaper red dots justndont work when the temps drop down to -30 and -40 levels and missing an opportunity at a shot in the cold sucks when your dot dont work. And yes i do go out hunting and shooting in the extreme cold. For me the little burris fast fires seem to work extremly well in -30 and below temps there like that franks hot sauce to me as i put that #### on everything lol

Like Apex says, batt running out is a rare thing, so carry a spare if you're worried. I have several Azoom 'cheap dots and reflex scopes' over several years and have yet to replace a batt. However I mostly use them at the range so a bunch of bush trips might kill a batt eventually.

Battery life is not the only issue when it comes to dots VS prisms. Yes an etched reticle will work no matter what.

I have an astigmatism and dots look like wavy lines to me. I have 3 Primary arms 1X prism sights for that reason. One on a .22, one on a .357 and one on a shotgun.

I like the more precise point of aim (tip of the chevron). Also, on the shotgun the semi-circle is very useful and can be used to pattern buckshot so you have an idea of where the spread is going to hit.
