Is there something wrong with me?....I have two 30 cal moose guns...

....does the 140 BT out of this rifle make sense for moose?
Why Not......the 7mm-08 is a wicked little hunting cartridge:cool:
I will say yes the BT's are probably not the "best" choice for moose, I'd stick with a partition at least.
I can tell you that a 139 Hornady interlock from a 7mm-08 blows right through both lungs of a moose at 200 meters though....if you were curious;)

If you can't find the load you need or the time to shoot it, take the RUM and work on the 7mm-08 for next season. BT's will expand quickly on moose, with minimal penetration, (and a big mess too):)

I'd try a 140 CoreLoct...and if they shot under 1-1/2" at 100 yards...I'd go moose hunting and concentrate on "hunting" moose.......and not worry about the firearm I was carrying....I'd get in position for a broadside shot at an unalarmed moose at no more than about 250 yards and give him one thru the ribs...

just checked the Wholesale Sports catalogue and there are a couple more factory loads that you could try for moose..

Federal shows a 150 gr Partition load and Speer shows a Nitrex load with the 145 Grand Slam bullet....

It is good to have a 0-250yd. gun and an over 250yd. gun...so when you are out hunting with your 0-250yd. gun and you see a moose 300yds away you can go home and get the other gun, its simple!

Moose shot through the lungs with the 140 Partition out of a 7-08 or 7x57 simply lay down and die soon after the shot. Trust me, I've done it several times. Take that 7-08 hunting and bring home the moose. BTW, 300 yards is possible with that combo. Regards, Eagleye.

Just saw this. ...OK smartass.

The thing is this: I have a watch that covers 540 yds (lasered) and another that reaches to 618. Being as every year we see moose neaer to the backside, I set up my 300 ultramag to cover that distance. I can hit 5/5 into a washer fluid jug at the back end of the longer one shooting 180 sirroco's.

That same bullet however, travelling at 300 RUM velocities tends to make a BIG mess at 50 yds. Hence the need for a "shorter" range gun.

Thanks for the hellpfull post though

Feel free to speak up if you actually have anything remotely helpfull and/or intelligent to add.
