Hey guys I have a 1903 carl gustav swede and was wondering if anyone knew where to get relatively cheap ammo. Somewhere close to $20 a box would be great. If there isn't any, then I'm saving for some reloading stuff, although I'll probably get it anyway. Thanks dave

I've seen old FMJ corrosive surplus around at gun shows from time to time. I always seem to find some empties at the range from someone. They're normally brass cased but berdan primed so it's just easier to find boxer brass than try to convert them.

Stocked up last year. Paid 27.99 a box for remington core lokt, 26.99 for federal shok, and 29.99 for some federal fusion. See some of these going for over 40 a box this year..sorry for drying up the supply guys.

If you've you have been thinking about reloading it is really the way to go. I've put hundreds of rounds through a couple 38's, a 96 and a 42B over the years. Norma brass (seems like it lasts forever) Hornady bullets and 4064 powder. Found a good load 35 years ago and still using it. If there is a downside the 42 always manages to make a case or two completely disappear no matter how hard I look.

Third batch of 400 bullets I've gone through in the last 16 months. I bought a set of molds, a box of gas checks and supply a friend with about 10 lbs of lead and for $75.00 he cranks out 400 for me. Those old M96's can crank out some very respectable accuracy.

You sound jewish. Why don't you just buy a .243.

I was at an Ontario gun shop recently and asked if they had any 6.5x55 in stock. The guy behind the counter said yep , reached around and grabbed a box of Winchester ammo off the shelf, and placed it on the counter. It was price marked $55.oo. I almost fell over! I would imagine it's still there.

Buy a bunch of the Prvi Partizan or S&B ammo and save the brass to reload. This is actually more cost effective than buying new, empty brass: a new case, bullet, primer, and powder will cost more than the factory round.

The primary cost saving in reloading many rifle calibres is in the reuse of the case.

And the fun of it too..

I think we all know that. I just made a comment on an overpriced box of ammo.

Did you ask for anything specific, cause the guy behind the counter is in the business of selling ammo and making money.
Being specific and knowing your product is what it takes to be a wise consumer and thrifty shooter.
Cost of ammo is the next cheapest coat to a hunting trip.

Easy fix, replace the gas port screw with a pointed adjustable machine screw to control the amount of gas to the bolt and slide and adjust till your load just ejects the empties about 4 to 5 feet away instead of into the next county.

By reloading with cast lead, my costs come out to $12.80/ box of 20. Can't beat that! If you can, I want to know where your shopping for reloading (primer, powder, gas checks, bullets) supplies!
