Is There Value in Scrap Brass??

I don't reload. What I have done is keep all my 9mm and 556 brass. I have what would amount to ~25lbs. Considering this is brass, can it be sold to a scrap metal recycler? Has anyone had experience doing this?

yes I have taken a few pail fulls in. They have steel primers so are considered dirty brass. Its worth like 1.00-1.30 a pound. It was worth about twice that a year ago.

Any suggestions on the going rate on the EE? My 9mm is almost all once fired. The 556, well it's Norc and once fired.

Post a "For Sale" sign at your local range. Lot's of guys will be pleased to pay you 5 cents a piece.

~25lbs isn't enough to pay for the gas to get to a scrap dealer. As mentioned, once fired brass has value, but a lot will depend on the brand.

I reload and try and save most of my brass. I also pick up and cart off all of the brass that I fire off of the range. While it takes time to collect scrap in this fashion - by way of ditching buggered brass during the loading process, Berdan primed stuff or just stuff I consider no longer viable or safe to continue reloading with, it is worth it in my opinion as it just sits under the bench in a bucket next to the garbage. i would say it is similar to saving canadian tire money.

I get $1.60/lb at a scrap yard for my throwaway brass.

I bring it in when I reach 100 lbs...definitely worth while.

I brought some in last summer and it was around $1.80 a pound. I heard the price has dropped a bit since then.
