Is this a fair deal?

I have the opportunity to purchase a used, albeit well taken care of, Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x40 AO EFR (10m-Inf) Scope for $700. I could not find a comparable NEW price (in Canada anyway...I found them for $600ish USD new) for this scope so I was hoping that maybe someone here would be able to tell me.

TIA
Richard

Are you planning on using the scope on a .22? That's about the only reason that I can think of for wanting the EFR feature. A standard VX111 6.5-20 goes for $830 at WSS, a 30mm with target turrets can be had for $970. I couldn't find a EFR for a price check, but to me $700 for a used scope seems high.

I wanted it for shooting 300m target.

Then I would just go with a new one for $830. Either that or show your seller what you can get a new one for and drive a harder bargain.
I've got a couple 6.5-20 x 40mm LRs with Varmintor reticles on .223 and 22/243 Middlested heavy barrels. Awesome scopes for shooting little bitty things a long ways away. What rifle is it going on?

I shoot a Bushnell Elite 4200 6x24 AO in Kamloops. If you check, you will find that new pricing is less then that use Leupold. Used ones are around $350 to 450 depending on the age and model.

If only shooting 300m, the dot reticle is very nice.

It will be going on a XR-100 chambered in 6BR

Cool, one of mine is on a XR100 in 22/243 Middlested.

Mysticplayer,
That's about what I got for my 6-24 4200 after it #### itself on my Anschutz .22 rimfire. Them that wants 'em can have 'em.

Mark Anderson was talking the other day about setting cantilevered targets at the 500m mark as well as the current 300m.

So when the those targets go up, I am sure I will be wanting to go to the 500m X-Rings as well.

I assume you are talking about the Target Dot reticle and not Mildot?

I hope I can come up to Kamloops to shoot with you guys one of these days. Unfortunately, it won't be soon because I'm planning to go to Ottawa this August and that is about all the time I'll be able to get away for shooting.

Anyway, for 300 metre shooting, I echo what mystic said about the 6-24 Elite. It really is a fantastic scope. It's only weakness (limited elevation adjustment) is not a factor for 300 or even 500 metre shooting.

Well I just bought a "Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 x 50 Mil-Dot" tonite  (Can be seen HERE) Which has the extended elevation adjustment over the the older model, 45minutes of adjustment on the new ones from what I have read here.

Airborn_69 had one for sale and I couldn't resist. So I will get to play with it sometime next week.

Thanks for everyones input I really appreciate the level of help here for some of us "lesser knowing" noobs.

I looked through one and they seem like a very nice scope indeed! As a taget shooter, my only complaint is that I want the dot to be much smaller than the v-bull since I generally hold off well under a minute for most conditions at 300M and the mil dot isn't a small enough dot for my taste. If this scope had a 1/8MOA dot, it would be perfect.
