Is this a good mount for Norinco M14?

Don't know about that mount...to be honest, I didn't even look at the link. There's a GREAT sticky about scope mounts for the M14 at the top of this forum.

The general consensus from folks that are much wiser about M14's than I is that you're going to get what you pay for. Word is that any bargain you find is likely to become one of those "bargains" where you spend 50% of the price of a good mount, and then end up buying a good mount to replace the crappy one that won't hold zero.

Wolverine has a good price on the ARMS #18, with taxes & shipping, it's about $215. With a full calibre semi-auto, you want a good solid mount, firmly attached, or the recoil can crunch the bejabbers out of even a tough scope.

READ THE STICKIES and the last major addition to the M14 FAQ''s from Lazerus2000...... trust the guys who KNOW these things.
that said.... the leatherwood mount does look like it would be satisfactory for the price. It is all steel and looks like it locks up to the action nice BUT is the mounting rail MILSPEC or undersized.... important to know these things. Buy one, try it out with several hundred rounds.... and let us know what you think.

i'd have to wonder about the QUALITY of the steel at that price- i keep an eye on some of the stateside boards, and i haven't seen a big wave towards the leatherwood mounts- in fact almost nothing- just the fact that it's steel doesn't make it a good mount- i have an s&k single point mount that wanders, AND IT's STEEL

I agree.

The two best monut made for the M1A (Smith + ARMS) are BOTH made by the same steel that the reciever is made from. There has to be something to it, I wouldn't trust the mount your looking at.

Spend the little extra $$$ and get something you won't need to replace cause it turned out to be POS, that's what I did...

I got the Smith 2024 fyi, great mount...

Has anyone looked into the Bassett mount? I bring this up with all credit due to the folks at m14 public forum. Apparently it is well tested, light weight, and can be removed and remounted in seconds without loss of zero. Costs around $100.00. Its hardened aluminum, with stainless steel pins to hold it in position. If you go to his website, they have letters of recommendation from law enforcement and target shooters.

i looked, and i wonder how those pins are mounted into the aluminum- if it's an epoxy or similar adhesive, or screwed or what?- i still think i'd prefer a steel casting- again, not seeing any wave hapening, so i'd say the arms or smith are still the way to go

They are press fit and locktited into a machined groove.

I agree, the sure bet is the smith or arms. I'm happy with my smith mount. But I look at this Bassett mount with envy of the ability to remove and remount easily with little loss of zero.

springfield 3'rd generation makes the same claim- and has since day one when they added the rear screw and fitting to the second generation- like i said, it's a claim

lol, everything looks good on paper, my not in the REAL world.

If someone wants to TRY another mount after asking the CGN community what they thought??? Hey, don't get mad if we told you so, you were warned...

there is NO such thing as removal with no shifting, there are too many variables & there will always be some adjustment to poi, but its sure nice for cleaning etc. Go with the proven mounts.
