Is this a WW2 No.4 Mk1?

Asking the experts...

I have an opportunity to buy what I'm told is a WW2 Enfield No.4 Mk1 manufactured by ROF Fazakerley.

The date stamp on the side of the receiver is not readable. Is there any way to identity when this rifle was manufactured based on the serial number?

Serial Number... H22***

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi staples, if it is a faz with a H prefix SN than yes it is a war time build. Post war Faz rifles have a "PF" prefix ( there were a few, 43? ,built post war for Parker Hale that have "PP" prefix). War time production serials for Faz are: 20000 to 29999 with prefixes A through Z.

ROF Maltby got 10000 to 19999 with A-Z prefix. BSA Shirley had the most production runs with the first being, 0001 to 9999 with only A prefix ( note these are 4 digit only). The second was 30000 to 39999 prefix A to Z but excluding I,J,O,&W. Third was A40000 to A79999 with no other prefix. Post war Shirley produced PS1 to PS10000. These are general production SN and not total rifles produced also there is always some odd ball numbers that pop up not to mention the "A" suffix denoting non-interchangage components.
