Hello everyone

I am trying to figure out if this ammo is corrosive or not. I have tried looking up the box's info online but not luck, the head stamp is NNY 1986. Any help would be appreciated.

Flat primer with that date should be non-corrosive. BUT...I would do the nail test and clean as corrosive until you are sure.

So much Yugo ammo is corrosive. I would treat that stuff as corrosive until you find out otherwise, and even then, do the nail test to make sure.

Showing my ignorance here .. what's the nail test? thanks.

Take a board, pound in some raw, untreated nails. Pull the bullet from a couple cases and dump powder. Put empty shell on nail and smack primer to go off. Check nail in a couple days for signs of rust (have some extra nails away from the test but in the same environment as a control)
There is a good thread somewhere around here with lots of pictures and a much better description of the test

Looks like Yugo M30 lead core heavy ball. Some of the best surplus 7.62x54r you'll find. I think they did a short run of non corrosive ammo in the 80s and they marked the primer with a purple sealant. You should definitely do the nail test to confirm though. Might even be boxer primed. Let us know how many flash holes you see if you take one apart.
