Is this ammo really non-corrosive?

wish my crappy tire sold that! I doubt its non corrosive. regardless not a bad price on 1400 rounds. I was told the crates that I buy are non but I still clean every time and every time its the same as when I shoot corrosive.

My best guess would be no. this topic has been covered several times on CGN. I think this is the same ammo sold by Lever in Vancouver that is billed as Non Corrosive and has caused many guns to rust when not cleaned after shooting. Many have tested the Non corrosive / corrosive claim by placing fired brass over top of non coated nails nailed into a 2x4. Apparently some tests showed both corrosive and Non corrosive in the same crate, so treat all as corrosive unless its the silver boxed Norinco plainly marked as non corrosive :) Shoot away

I knew before i bought that it was probably corrosive, so no shock there. I thought price was not bad even if it is corrosive so I bough it anyway.

The clerk I bought it from was fairly knowledgeable guy, maybe store owner or owner's family. I asked him how Canadian Tire determined whether it was non-corrrosive ammo. He said the distributor they buy this stuff from advertises it and sells it as non-corrosive. He was surprised to hear there was any controversy.

Corrosive

packed in 71.

many threads on this, though some have had half corrosive half non corrosive crates of that stuff

Here's the way to know - pull a bullet, empty the powder, pop the primer and place the fired round on a clean nail head, outside - check back over a few days - if it rusts, it's corrosive.

I came up with a pretty simple and safe system for 7.62x39
If it is:
Mil. Surplus
Steel core
Bredan primed
Then assume its corrosive.

If it is:
Commercial of any kind
Then it is most likely non-corrosive but clean as corrosive anyways just to be on the safe side.

I once forgot to clean a rifle after shooting corrosive. The result after a month of sitting in the safe was so horrible that i couldnt look at it ever again and sold it (with full disclosure).

I've done this test, you don't even have to wait. If the nail is covered in a white powder after popping the primer, it's corrosive.

Corrosive. I bought the exact same crate last year and was too told it was NC. Big mistake. Let one of my SKS's sit for a week after firing it, thank god for that chrome bore.

If its made before 1990, make every assumption that it is corrosive.

Having that said, so what if it is? Take the extra 60 seconds to clean it and remind yourself why your shooting costs are half of the guys who buy Non-corrosive ammo.

CT a leduc have really some good stuff ^^ , i dont why but i think it probably the best ct i see , not like the one i got at forst sask where they have close to nothing in the hunting section

Was this at CT Leduc? I saw this the other day and thought the same...

Yes. Great store, but still a box store - if you know what you want and aren't looking for much help besides a clerk to get something out of the rack so you can look at it, then it's good. It's not ever going to replace a proper gun store though.

Ok, i bought a crate from Lever a few weeks ago. Asked the guy and he said non-corrosive as far as salts in the primer. But, he said
The powder is very dirty so clean after every use. I've already put about 600 rounds thought 3 sks riffles. Cleaned them with solvent and gun oil but not detergent or hot water.

X2, don't trust non corrosive 7.62x39. Always clean it after shooting this stuff or it will still rust, just a slower rate than the reg corrosive stuff from what I seen happen to a buddies sks
