My buddy found these cleaning out his dad's estate.

He had a few antiques floating around but this one he's not totally sure on.

If it is an antique would it be worth finding parts and getting it back into service.

Story I was told was decades ago he brought a bunch of pistols into the police as he didn't want to register etc. They removed some parts to make them in operable tagged them and returned.

A few I told him were not antiques as they were far to new but still kissing 100 years etc.

Any info would be amazing.

Only markings are on top of the barrel and serial on the bottom of the grip.

This one is missing a couple springs I believe and the lock for the top break. And what appears to be oversize grip replacements.

Rimfire or centre fire? a look a the firing pin will show that. Caliber? Measure the bore. My guess, centerfire and not antique. Then the length of the barrel will determine if restricted or prohibited. But does not matter much since no transfer or registration is possible.

Centerfire and appears to be a .38

Cylinder specs at diameter .366 case length .80

But ya he might have to surrender them, unless he can sell them or strip for parts to the states as the executer of the estate

Not worth anything and not worth the effort. I would just strip for parts and hand it in. Or maybe just use the good old angle grinder if there is no record.

Iver Johnson Second Model Safety Hammer (Large Frame) chambered in .38 S&W, easily identified by the combination of the T-bar style latch and 2-pin frame.

Standard production ran from 1895-1908, however the blued finish and 6"(?) barrel were options added on special order. Serial number and barrel address places production of this one specifically to 1895. The oversize grips came off of a Hopkins & Allen Safety Police, however Iver Johnson also offered 2 styles of oversized grips on special order guns like this one. Unfortunately restricted - hopefully this and the other guns can be saved from the smelter. Some of us may be interested as parts if ultimately they cannot be saved.
