Our recommendation is no less than 1/8th of an inch of clearance between the bottom of the objective and the top of the barrel. Your second choice (0.160) [for scope base height] will give you enough clearance. It is not the heat that will be a problem, it is that your optic could potentially come in contact with the barrel under recoil.
