If you can slide a piece of paper between the bell of the scope and the rifle barrel you are fine.

The standard common gap is usually a business card if it could be pulled between scope and gun...not very scientific but has served us well over the years. Phil.

Does Zeiss have the screw in scope covers? If they do you can protect the glass. Otherwise you’ll need to notch out a flip up cover that fits over the objective. But the clearance is fine.

If you watch this slow-motion video of barrel harmonics, the highest amplitude of the barrel whip is at the muzzle, and the region under the scope acts more like a node, so I would agree with others that you’re likely ok.

That said, be aware that (in general) with greater recoil you’ll start to get flexing, even with high quality components. As an extreme example, with 50BMG the scope itself, rail, and mount can all flex independently of the barrel, which is why Nightforce says this (taken from an email from Nightforce that was posted on a US precision rifle forum):

Our recommendation is no less than 1/8th of an inch of clearance between the bottom of the objective and the top of the barrel. Your second choice (0.160) [for scope base height] will give you enough clearance. It is not the heat that will be a problem, it is that your optic could potentially come in contact with the barrel under recoil.
