I bought a used 30-30 marlin 336 found that the end of the bolt where it would meet with the breach seems to have a large chunk missing from the top of the bolt almost on a 45 degree angle. Is this normal? Isnt the face of the bolt suppose to be round ?not partially round.

Yes, they are. I'll admit it looks a bit odd, but that's how they are. First I checked my own rifle, then an exploded diagram for the 336. That bevel is supposed to be there.
