Is this really Lead?

Was given this anchor and told it was "lead".
It's very shiny, extremely hard to scratch and weighs about 18 Ilbs.
I'm assuming that it's some sort of an alloy - but what?

Your photo is unviewable. That said no anchor would be made of lead as it would deform.

Most anchors are made of galvanised steel.

I'm gonna wager (Even without a sense of scale) that thing would weigh a lot more than 18 lbs if it were lead. Definitely looks galvanized (Zinc coated)

If that anchor was made of lead, it would bend when the teeth caught and they would point in the wrong direction. Definitely not lead.

i have an anchor just like that, no it's not lead. never heard of a lead anchor.

Looks like iron to me. Test it with a magnet.

Thats not lead, its a galvanized steel anchor. Lead wouldn't last long, its way too soft.

Lead is used as keel weight in sailboats, Zinc is what is used as anodes for sacrificial metal for marine and water heater use.

An anchor like that is worth a fair bit, $30 or so, so you could sell it and buy some good lead alloy.

It might be that special lead they use in fishing weights and diving belts

You talking zinc anode's? The kind to combat electrolysis in salt water.
That anchor will likely be case iron with a zinc coating. Made in China.
