Is this really non-corrosive surplus 7.62x54r?!

Probably about as non-corrosive as a bucket of salt water.... I've never seen ammo come out of a wood box that was anything but.

Lever Arms has advertised corrosive milsurp ammo as non-corrosive before, so be careful.

Not a big deal, just clean your rifle after use....... Its not like black powder...its just the primer...
folks shot corrosive primed cases for years AND with VERY EXPENSIVE rifles .

The issue isn't the fact that shooting corrosive is a big deal. Its that nobody wants to buy "non-corrosive" ammo and end up getting burned by false advertising.

Lever had non-corrosive 7.62x39 that was largely regarded as corrosive a few years ago and had 7.62x39 more recently that was widely regarded as indeed non-corrosive.

A sponsor on here had non-corrosive 7.62x54r on CGN a few years ago and later changed the description to corrosive after reports that some of it may have had some corrosive primers mixed in.

Best to clean as if corrosive.

Someone should be around soon to suggest the “nail test” to check if the primers are corrosive, but who knows, if the entire crate has the same primers or not.

The price is good IMHO. Purchase it and clean accordingly.

I don't know what Lever's pricing is concerning shipping. I see CanAm isn't listing it.

I bought "non corrosive" from Frontier about 4-5 years ago that just turned out to be Czech on stripper clips, paid an extra $100 for nuthin, anything in a crate, be very suspicious!

I wonder if it's shady business practice on the part of the retailer or the distributor/supplier... If it was just lever I would assume retailer but if it's multiple businesses, including ones with better reputations, then maybe not.

Could be the retailer or it could be the distributor or it could be the businesses in China producing it ..... a few years ago baby food was found there with melamine in it .... in comparison to that, what’s a few corrosive primers mixed in with some non-corrosive or whatever. Clean it as corrosive just in case.

Most definitely corrosive. If it comes in a wooden crate - and if Lever Arms says "non-corrosive" - then most definitely corrosive. They are famous (infamous) for that claim being false.

If some one purchases this plaese do a nail test to verify and report back. I would buy in a second if non-corrosive. Already sitting on a crate of the last supposedly non corrosive that with in days the nail rusted. The vendor then changed it to corrosive. Works fine but I don't want to have to clean my rifle every outing especially in hunting camp after a little target shooting!

There's no difference in cleaning, except hot water down the barrel (it's near placebo anyway if you use modern CLP). All this hype with non-corrosive ammo is just a religious and commercial hype. Those rifles went through much harsher conditions and they will be fine unless totally neglected.

Target practice when hunting? Unless I'm worried I bumped my scope and might have buggered my zero, there's no time for target practice at hunt camp...

You're right when it comes to bolt action rifles but semi autos can be a bit more of a problem. Especially with the pistons and gas tubes. Little more effort but some people are intimidated with the task. Not everyone takes to dismantling firearms in a positive manner. There are some very clutzy people out there when it comes to anything mechanical. They do extremely well at other things though.

I have a long time friend that thinks he's accomplished a miracle when he removes the bolt from his hunting rifle.

I can fully understand why some people avoid corrosive ammo.

OP, at 46-47 cents per round the price is only about 15% above the cost of reloading. Still, the components alone might be worth it to you when all is said and done.

Reasonably priced 7.62x54R isn't exactly plentiful anymore.

For me, its all about the time it takes. Some people claim "oh its the same as cleaning any other gun" but for me, its not. If I shoot corrosive, I need to completely disassemble my SKS, make sure I give a good clean to the inside of the gas tube and piston, pull out the firing pin and make sure it and its channel are nice and clean, scrub down every little nook and cranny of the receiver...

Meanwhile, I either don't clean it at all using regular ammo, or I can just pull the top cover off, remove the bolt, and run a few wet then dry patches through the bore and call it a day. One method takes me substantially longer than the other.

I bought some the last time I was in there store. It didn't matter to me, but they said that they did the nail test and it tested non corrosive. Haven't opened the cans yet.

I have a wooden crate of 2011 manufactured Chinese copper wash. It is definitely not corrosive, even my spent cases that were outside for a month did not corrode.

I rarely clean my mosin for 2-3 weeks during shooting and have no issues with the factory 61 2011 production ammo.

Maybe I just tag out before he rest of them lol! Yes your right some years it down to the very end. Some years we take a leisure day!
