Is this rust/corrosion?

Hey everyone need some help here.

This rifle is brand new from Canadian retailer and it looks as though the rifling is quite rusted and I need some input as to if it is actually rust. Trird some clp and pull through with the bore snake and nothing. I've contacted the retailer but I'm unsure if the rifle is compromised at this point. Has anyone experienced this with a brand new firearm?

Just take it back if your not happy with it.....
Some if not all gun manufacturers test fire for function and/or accuracy and most likely dont clean them after the three or five test rounds fired.
That has been my experience.

Looks like some copper streaks form test fireing.
Shoot it a few times and see how it dose.
Or if they will take it back. Do that.
The next one make look the same.

Hard to tell from picture, but I would lean toward copper deposit. You are going to need a cleaning rod - get a good one piece one, not a sectional aluminum one. You will need bronze / phosphor brushes - many of them for that size bore - they wear out. Need a bore jag and patches for that size bore - is a fuss to get proper match - I use Butch's Triple Twill patches of various sizes - sometimes need a jag that is two sizes smaller than you would think - for the thickness of the patch - so I bought a Tipton set of jags - 12 brass / bronze jags from .17" to .45". And good copper removing bore cleaner - not modern Hoppe's #9 or similar. I use foaming Wipeout and overnight soaks. And likely some kind of bore grease or oil - so likely need a proper sized bore mop or a way to attach very loose patch to a looped jag. I prefer to clean to bare metal after shooting, then use mop to swab on a layer of oil or grease for storage. Or just leave last load of WipeOut in the bore, for those that I store muzzle down. I was lead to believe that a Bore Snake might be "handy" but does not replace proper cleaning gear.

could be copper fouling or if it was stored in a humid environment then it also could be surface rust but I would lean slightly more towards copper fouling from test firing
