After seeing Vortex Optics offer for sale it always left me with questions about fair value.
There appear to be more models than General Motors or Ford.
Following a distributor's price list this appears to be the various models as they increase in value:

Raptor
Crossfire
Diamondback
Viper
Kaibab
Razor

Some may appiy to all scopes and binoculars but I don't know.
As they increase in value do they necessarily increase in quality?

Straight from the Vortex Canada website, for rifle scopes:

Razor AMG
Razor HD Gen II
Razor HD Gen II-E
Razor HD
Razor HD LH
Golden Eagle
Viper PST Gen II FFP
Viper PST Gen II SFP
Viper HS-T
Viper HS LR
Viper HS
Viper
Strike Eagle
Diamondback Tactical
Diamondback HP
Diamondback
Crossfire II

These are the current production models, I think a few of the ones you've listed are no longer made.

The parts increase in quality as the price goes up. On more expensive models:

-The lenses are of better quality including lead-free ED glass with better phase-corrected coatings for improved light transmission and clarity. Field-of-view, eyebox and zoom can be taken much farther before becoming a problem.

-The internals are more robust, moving away from plastic parts and cheap springs toward brass and stainless pieces that improve precision of adjustment, feel and sturdiness which helps eliminate drift from zero and improves tracking and turret feel.

-Options improve with things like front focal plane, external turrets, zero-stop and better reticles.

-Larger diameter tubes improve the range of adjustment for elevation and windage and allow larger erector tube lenses. The aluminum tubes themselves often are thicker, making for a more robust platform.

The penalties for better scopes are always price and usually weight. I just bought a Vortex LH with 1" tube. The glass is remarkable and it's surprisingly light but eyebox is somewhat limited. There are always trade offs.

Ive had the crossfire rhe diamond back and the viper. All failed. With just the amount of ppl i know that have had their scopes replaced often several times proves they are over priced for the quality as they couldnt afford to stay in business ic they werent over priced.
When a 12lb 223 rattles a $1900 scope loose you should question the quality. This has been my experience and the guys i shoot with experiences. Some buddies defend the brand with utmost loyality even after replacing 5 scopes.
I read alot of ppl are happy with them. They certainly cant handle recoil

I bought the same scope in 3-15x. I have to say that I was thoroughly disappointed with everything except the weight and the glass. The glass is amazing for a $1200 optic. I think it's better than my couple of Leupold VX-6HD scopes that cost significantly more.

The worst thing about it is the turrets. They suck really bad. Very mushy and hard to distinguish between clicks. Usually when I buy an optic with that much magnification it's because I'm using it on a set up that I'm going to want to adjust the elevation. This scope turned out basically useless for that. It's a set it once and leave it alone scope. Good thing the moa reticle is decent and useable.

Also the magnification adjustment ring is very stiff. And it only gets stiffer in cold weather and becomes hard to turn especially if wearing gloves. I'm going to have to find a throw lever that fits the adjustment ring.

The glass is exceptional but they obviously cut corners everywhere they could in an effort to keep the weight down.

I don't dislike it enough to sell it, the glass makes it a keeper, but I'm in no hurry to buy another one.

Just my .02

I agree with your observations of the Razor LH. Lousy turrets but my zoom ring seems fine. I just shot some of my best groups with this scope so I won't be parting with it anytime soon. The reticle is very fine so it makes a great target scope. Not sure if it'll be any good for hunting though.

The value of the LH is in the glass and it seems rock solid once it's dialed in. It's not a dial 'em up tactical wonder, that's for sure.

X3 on the Razor HD LH, I picked up a BNIB 2-10, with the G4 reticle, the glass is very impressive as it picks up alot light at dusk and dawn, on average pending particulars the Razor beat the rifles previous Vari-X 111 2.5-8, 30 min after sunset as I'm putting the rifle away, one last look threw the glass proved slightly brighter at any magnification and I'm able to pick up the G4 reticle quicker then leupolds duplex in low light,
The downside are the turrents are mushy and the mag adjustment is stiff, quite stiff, as mentioned, I'm hoping the Razor lasts as long as the Leup did, but time/abuse/weather will tell, I cant speak to any other Vortex Models,

Happy New Years,
