Just got a deal I couldn't refuse on this scope:

Magnification: 4-18x
Objective Diameter (mm): 42

I got it for my deer/bear rifle (Ruger M77 MKII in 7mm-08), I was looking for a 3-9 or 2.5-10 or something. Is 4X too much for bush/stand hunting?

I wouldn't say its too much. It won't be as fast as say a 2x mag but it is most definitely usable. You may not use the high end much, but atleast you have it if you need it. Considering you got a great deal on it. I say run with it.

What make of scope is that?? 50 yd paralax setting? wouldnt that be a rimfire scope??
That got me confused as well... I am going to try it out. The make is Smith & Wesson. I can't see a 4X-18X target/Varmint scope with an A/O that adjusts to 1000 yds being set at a parallax of 50yds??? But maybe that's why I got such a good deal.

Here is the only dealer I can find that sells them:

Its A/O...parallax free at 50 yds at lowest setting...adjust up from there....i think.
Varmint scope....I would hesitate to put on a hunting rifle...probly would work fine, but I like something smaller and "tougher".

Just my .02

On the paralax, the specs you have posted say 50yds/15M. 15M is roughly 50 feet not 50yds. I'm guessing that is a typo and referrs to the minimum setting on the AO. I would consider a 4-18x a varmint scope, but lots of guys swear by a fixed 4x so it could work as a deer rifle. It wouldn't be something I'd consider for where I hunt though ( 200yds = a long shot).

Looks like a POS Tasco w/ a different name on it.
Tasco contracts out their scopes ie. Cabela's

Hope you didn't pay too much!

IMHO not worth over $100

I did a trade for it... it is definitely Superior to any Tasco, I have owned POS Tascos. This scope was selling in the US for $572. I think they are definitely not a Leupold but they are of good quality.

Just because they were " selling" for $572 doesn't mean they are worth $572

Try a ebay search, you might be surprised;)

Hey, but if you're happy, that's all that matters. But for $500+ i'd personally be into a Leupold.
Just my 2 centys.
