Hey guys,

My Dad and I were looking at his Winchester 94 today and saw this;

Is this typical of Winchester 94s to have this hole in the barrel, as it does look machined? If it helps my Dad's Winchester 94 is a Post-64 model from the 90s.

Thanks guys.

I'm sorry, I don't want to come off like an a----- or some arrogant know it all, but if you couldn't figure out that the piece of metal on the side of the bolt is the extractor and that the thing you were worried about is the extractor cut-out, may I suggest you might need to get hold of some books and read up on gun design and mechanics? Seriously, running a firearm safely means you need to know the basic elements of how they work, as well as the basics of ballistics or you could get yourself in trouble down the line if you had some kind of failure or breakage in the field or whatever.

Please take this as intended, I'm not wanting to insult you, your safety not to mention un-needed trips to the gunsmith are at possible risk. Cheers.

Absolutely, there is nothing wrong with redbone's question. We've all been there, and him not knowing the cutout in his barrel is the extractor recess means nothing about how safe a shooter he is. 95% odds I could pull a part out of vega's car, dishwasher, or hot water heater and he wouldn't know what it is, doesn't mean he shouldn't use those devices.

I agree, why are so many people so quick to direct people to other means if information and tear them a new one? If nobody posted anything on this website it would not be very interesting. Everytime someone posts a question it always seems like there is someone trying to put them down. The guy who is ripping on him is saying he isn't a safe shooter because he didn't know what that was. I would say the exact opposite of that since they are trying to learn somthing rather than just not caring about it and hoping for the best.

Ignorance is bliss for some folks.

And, btw Swifty, what exactly is there in my suggesting a new shooter should learn the basic mechanics of firearm's design to enhance his safety and enjoyment that makes me a female reproductive organ? Really? That's the best you've got on a forum which is generally conducted with some decorum in the interest of exchanging information about guns? Do you not like female genitals? What?
