I found these two boxes in my ammo safe and I think they are wad cutter, not semi wadcutter… but you see it says +P semi wadcutter on the box?
I am going to sell them, but I want to make sure I call them right name, and I believe these are wadcutters not semi wadcutter.
If you guys can just verify this, I’d appreciate it,
thanks so much…

I see 158gr on the box. Commercial wadcutters are 148gr usually and not loaded to +p pressures since they are target ammo.
They are also flush with the casing.

I would call these semi-wadcutters.

The only question is are you sure this is factory ammo?

All of the Winchester Super X “+P” pistol ammunition I have seen had nickel casings, not yellow brass. I can’t make out the headstamp from the photo resolution but to me they look like semi-wadcutter reloads.

Are you thinking you put something different in the boxes?

Ffs, I was thinking the same thing.
That or asking if I was on Candid Camera.
It does say 158gr. semi wad cutter right on the box.
Then again maybe the items have been changed out from their original containers.
There is no ignorance nor are then stupid questions only stupid answers...
Sometimes the sarcastic humor gets lost ...even if sarcasm is the lowest form of humor I doubt there was any malcontent intended.

Fixed.

I think you need to sell them to someone face to face or using a picture because they are not the most common type of bullet. I'd call them wadcutters, because, IMO, a wadcutter has the cutting edge at the leading surface of the bullet. These are within 95 percent of that. A semi wadcutter has the cutting edge well down from the leading edge, resembling an unsharpened crayon. But, this is strictly my opinion.

The original ammunition that was in those boxes would have looked something like this:

What you have is a full wadcutter that can be described as a "button nose" type. As mentioned, H&G and Lyman have made molds for this style.

I was thinking it would give me an excuse to buy another pistol, LOL, but, I did the wise thing and just gave them away to a fellow at the gun club shooting range.
Thanks for your help guys,
have a fantastic week

So, I find it interesting that I post a question about wadcutters and it gets over 300 views in less than 24 hours… if only I could get this kind of success with my for sale ads, LOL…
Incredible! On one hand I think it’s absolutely crazy, on the other hand, we have a fantastic community of very thoughtful sincere people helping others here, thank you, gentlemen…

those are semi-wadcutters, wadcutters are flat on the front.

They look like wadcutters, similar to this one:

Many bullet mold manufacturers offer similar designs and their literature describes them as wadcutters, as that tiny button nose is hardly any nose at all compared to actual semi-wadcutters.
