I am new to reloading and i have a concern. i am reloading .303Brit for my lee enfield. I have the hornady 7th edition reloading book and for the powder i bought (H414) it say for a velocity of around 2200 fps, around 41 grains is recommended for a 174 grain, FMJ-BT bullet. The main problem was brought up by my dad. He has been reloading for over 20 years and he mainly loads 38spl/357mag with 4.9g of red dot powder. He is worried since it is such a large leap to go from 4.9g to 41g. Thanks.

That sounds correct, just checked my manual for 180g (doesn't list 174's), and it was 42.5 of H414, so you should be good. Pistol ammo is greatly reduced as compared to a rifle round.

I will probably never use a max load, mainly because i do not want to risk damage to my rifle. I loaded 10 test rounds about an hour or two ago. i went a little lower and used 39 grains instead of 40 or 41 because i dont usually shoot really long distances so no need for a large load (not to mention i want to save powder since the only place in town that sells components is a total rip off). It should give me around 2150fps. I am going to shoot them off tomorrow, and hopefully do a full batch tomorrow night.
