is your 10/22 firing pin ammo sensitive?

A little background first,

I`ve been using a 23 yr old Squires Bingham M20 .22 semi for countless thousands of rounds. It LOVES the Remington "Cyclone" shells. In about 6000 bullets, only one has failed to fire after being hit by the firing pin....

Today with my brand new 10/22, in 400 shots (of the same bullet) I had 6 bullets fail to go off when squeezing the trigger. I`d cycle the bolt to eject the shell and the next one fired ok...re-load the duff bullet and it would fire. Out of the 6 that wouldn`t fire initially, only one wouldn`t fire after re-trying them.
(The shells that failed weren`t due to not having bolt close fast or hard enough. All were from the middle of the magazine in a firing sequence.)
WTH??? Any ideas? Is there something about 10/22s I should know?

One of the mods to correct this in the 10/22 is to have the firing pin "pinned" to prevent the up and down slop that is present.

I really couldn`t say....when your .22 semi goes off, do you chase down the brass to examine it when everything is working?

I guess that would have been a good idea. Even comparing the 10/22 fired case vs the duff shell.

Thats a pretty good mod but.....

This is a new 10/22 right? Bang away at a brick or two and then report back. It will probably work itself out as the new gun wears in. Try diffent ammo types too.

After two or three bricks (say 1500 rounds) if you are still having problems, then consider the mod.

yup, as i said this gun is brand new.
ahhh crap...it just struck me right now as i type this, i only put 200 rounds through it. it was **4** boxes (of 50) not 400 rounds.

the 200 rounds were the first 200 shots through it.

mine is brand new and has a bit of the obvious new 10/22 stiffness. messes up every now and then. im confident itll loosen up over time :)
especially if someone sells me a large mag and I can put more ammo through the thing!

Mine had lots of issues at first so I decided to put 2 bricks of Stingers through it. Hyper-Velocity stuff really helped smoothing the gun out and now I pretty much stick with Mini-Mags and have very few things go wrong.

yup...i eventually want to get a couple of 30 rnd mags or maybe even the 50 rnd ones if they don`t have issues. nothing like walking thru a field of gophers with 2 or 3 hi-cap mags of .22 at your disposal. :D

seriously though, i`m thinking of the *Volquartzen High Perf. kit* to make the trigger crisper and reduce the pull needed. Also the Volquartzen bolt and mag release mods. WTF was ruger thinking when they designed that #^$& bolt release tab....JEEEZE!!!
