Hi, I was wondering the availability of these rifles in Canada? Whats easier to find the 10 shot variant or the 12? What would be the price for one? The Lee Enfield design is known for its speed shooting and quality but I want to stay away from .303 and would rather the 7.62x51/.308. That brings the question up about ammo. I've done a quick google search and other forums say you can use factory .308 but not hot round can anyone verify this? Thanks

You'll mainly see people cautioning for the use of 7.62x51 instead of commercial .308 in the Ishapore 2A'a and 2A1's.

Without a shred of advice/liability, many have put commercial .308 down the Ishapores safely.

And, as always, reloading is an option.

Welcome to the wonderful world of internet "fact". I've never been able to find the definitive answer to this question but I decided to stick strictly to mil-spec ammo given all the discussion. Another question worth asking would be the long term impact of shooting a lot of any type of ammo in this modified No. 1 rifle. I'd like to hear someone say that he's put 1000+ rounds through one without significant headspace change. The myth is that the Indians used a better grade of steel in these versions but I've seen true experts challenge that. The Aussies tried a 7.62 conversion of the basic No. 1 (SMLE) but references indicate their action body wasn't up to the added pressure. Frankly, if you're concerned about doing fast, high volume shooting it would probably be better to look at something else.
