Ishapore Enfield, but not really... what do I have here?

Greetings again, Friends. I bought this little fellow at a pawnshop before the Registry ended, and never really gave it much thought. It's a little strange, though, not a typical Ishapore refurb. It's missing the crossbolt, and the manufacturer stamp is on the wrong side of the wrist. The barrel, receiver, bolt, stock, and nosecap are all numbered ...and matching.

The stock is shellacked, and the metal is covered with a black paint of some kind. Which is chipping/peeling.

Here's a few photos, any insight into this?

Is it possible it's a Khyber Pass copy? They have little workshops there that turn out copies of guns. Some as good as factory, most are not well made. Some downright dangerous.

not likely, Khyber Pass rifles have lots of markings.

Ishapore did 'scrub' markings from some of the rifles they refurbed and remarked them, but mostly No4s
