I have a Model M1949 Israeli Bayonet with scabbard and frog. The scabbard is marked Diamant Elite 40 and I am assuming the bayonet is a Diamant Elite also as it has a single symbol "e".

I've seen others that have the Isreali Cyrillic writing and the Star of David, however this one I have does not and it is definately a M1949.

Now from what I understand is the Israelis used German equipment first and then began manufacturing their own bayonets when they ran out. My question here is was the Israeli Cyrillic not always used on the German captures and were the ones that were extensively marked with Cyrillic writing the ones they manufactured from scratch ?

Graham Priest did an artical on Isralei bayonets for the May/June 2006 Armourer Militaria Magazine + says once the local armourers refurbished + added full muzzle rings that serial #s,Star of David + ZAHAL Tsuidi property stamp added. The markings were stamped on ricasso + scabbard while many german markings remained. He also says that other than some copies alledgedly made in railway workshops the Israelis never manufactured any.The markings on the ones I've seen for sale or on ebay have had either only muzzle ring added with only german markings like yours(early conversions?),to mixed hebrew + german markings + then ones with only hebrew markings.

Does your bayonet have any other markings than "e" + is there a serial # on the scabbard.
