hi all, im just wondering whats the deal with ammo for my 7.62 mauser. Am i able to shoot any .308 round or just .308 win and 7.62 nato. i put 40 rounds of i think hungarin ammo with very good results.
any help would be appreciated thanks

Any .308 calibre bullet loaded into the appropriate cartridge should fit down the barrel. The Israelis converted them for military use, so they would have made the chambers for 7.62x51mmNATO. It will also fire .308Winchester.
 
Your Mauser should be able to handle the 308 but before this gets crazy (ie 7.62mmx51mm Nato vs 308 win, hot topic from thousands of posts from the past), See the links below: 308 is not the same as 7.62nato. Read on...

Israeli 7.62's

I collect Israeli weapons and the 7.62 rifles are great.
I think I have 8 or 10 in my collection along with the .22 Mauser, FN, and Galil. I need an UZI CA to complete the collection.

Some of my Mausers are made by FN for Israel with the crest on the receiver, one is a .22 single shot. I have read that there are only about 1,000 made.
