Hey guys,
I have a .22 K98 Israeli Mauser (Remington barrel, not FN), reamed out to .22 mag by a previous owner.
At the range today, it fired fine, then suddenly stopped striking.
I checked the cases after I ejected them. There were no firing pin marks.
I'm guessing one of two things has happened.
1, PERHAPS headspacing is off, due to shooting .22 mag in a gun designed for .22lr, but since the gun was ORIGINALLY designed for 8mm, I doubt this is the case. But could that be possible?
2, Perhaps the firing pin is buggered up (either broken or dirtied up). So, how do I disassemble this unusual bolt to find out the problem/clean it?
EDIT: The firing pin wasn't visible when I removed the bolt. I removed the bolt from the gun and partially disassembled, like a regular K98. The firing pin was inside the bolt assembly. It MIGHT have somehow worked loose from its housing inside the bolt.
