God Damn it I just missed another chance at an Israeli Mauser.
Two were up on the EE recently and they both sold before I could snatch one.

Are there any small shops anywhere that aren't within reach of the Google that have one on the rack?
Any gunnutz near small time stores help me out here?

This is turning into a cruel joke lol I wish I had time to live on the EE. Maybe I would stop missing them!

Del Selin's in Vernon has one on the shelf. That was a week ago though.

Now if you want a relatively rare Israeli 98, find one that's still in its original 7.92 chambering. When you do, they're usually Czech with the Rampant Lion crest on the receiver.

Will have to look into this place.

That's the thing with Mausers; my favorite bolt action design of all time. Usually always chambered in a hard to find, obscure in North America cartridge.
The Israeli Mauser is the key. All the best pros with a cheap/affordable and common cartridge.
Looking for a shooter rifle with a solid bore is all really.

The search continues!

Does this Del Selins shop ship?

Yes, they ship. It's a great little shop with really good staff. 250 545 6413. Tuesday to Saturday.

I've been religiously watching the EE for one... can't believe I missed them

It's almost been like a running joke on me lol
I've been trying to bag one for years literally. Every time I see one on the EE it's either SPF or I message the guy and it's sold and the add was left up.

I did finally close the deal on one now though.
Finally!
Keep at it Sir. There's tons of them out there in good condition with strong bores. 3 years patience was the key ;)

How much was it? I've been feeling like I need one in the rotation and I'll have to stop in for a look see.

There are many many types of Israeli Mauser.
I've been doing a lot of research now that I have one on the way in the mail lol
They used Nazi German, Czech, Swedish M40 etc Hell they even got some Ethiopian M30's and converted them eventually.
There are also FN Belgium made newly manufactured IDF Mausers. These were not rebarrels but brand new barrel/receivers fabricated and then the rifles completed with left over parts amalgamations from all 4 other countries guns etc You can spot these because the receivers omitted the cleaning rod thread/in on the receivers unlike the re-worked WWII rifles. Plus the obvious IDF/Haggah crests.

These would be harder to find but a good rifle for sure.

There was also a .22 cal training rifle that FN made for the IDF. These are very rare at around 1,000 made.

A lot of the Israel Mausers ended up in Guatemala after the IDF went to the FN FAL in the late 50's/60's These rifles were used heavily and spread across South America, some even found their way to the shady CIA funded Contra wars of the 80's.

There are examples of rifles in private hands out there that were WWI K98's reworked by the Nazi's into serviceable WWII era k98's, re-barreled by the IDF and with Guatemalan receiver codes. Think of the history behind a rifle like that.

I think these are the coolest affordable milsurps around and they shoot a common available caliber best of all!

I have a matching FN Israeli, a couple of reworked 98's, plus another reworked 98, an FN .22, and a rebarreled 98 with a Remington .22 barrel. I bought all these when people were pushing each other out of the way to poo-poo "them old army rifles". I would like to pretend I was able to see into the future and added these to my carefully picked collection. Alas, I can honestly say that I bought lots of military surplus rifles because I liked the look, the history involved.

There is something special about hefting a nice old lee Enfield No. 1 or 4. I have a gun room filled with milsurps. Some I have lucked out on, and they have turned out to be genuine collectibles. One recent example is a Mexican M54 30-06. Guys in the US have searched for years to find a decent one for their collections. Old dumba$$ here finds a real nice one at a very low price. :d

People on here have been a great source for information and assistance. The 'net has been a tremendous asset. Back in the day, when I was trying to get a business going and raising a family, I had money for one or the other, guns or books. I bought guns. :)

Just put a Burris Fullfield 1.4-5 scope on mine using a BadAce no drill set up. Hoping to try it at the range soon.

I was looking for an Israeli as well, ended up getting a Parker Hale Mauser .308 conversion. Not full wood, but at least a Mauser in a common caliber that was professionally done.

I remember the days when you couldn't give away an Israeli Mauser, especially those with the large "winter" trigger guard. What happened ..... ?
