Best I can figure, but looks to have a winter trigger guard? Is this just a bubba? 7.76 also stamped large in the bottom of the butt stock. Muzzle lands alomost worn out, looks well used or abused. I thought all model 98s had the firing metal disc (bolt repair) in the butt stock.
I'm far, far from knowledgable with Mausers, can anyone inform me on this thing?

No serials match, so this could easily be a frankenstein's monster for all I know, based on a swp45.

Thanks,
Mike

One of the many Late War/Post War Cezch K98's that were sold to Israël. The winter trigger is typical of the Post War assembled rifles. Late War K98 stock did not have the disk.

My wife's godfather owns a beautiful Israeli Mauser that I need to check out. Also, he has some 8mm ammo with the Star of David stamped on it.

Yep, made in Brunn, Czechoslovakia in '45. Assembled postwar and shipped off to the Israeli's for a rebarreling. Like JP said, late war (kriegsmodel) stocks won't have the disk. I can't tell the wood type from your pic. It could also be an Israeli beech stock which won't have the takedown disc either.

Thanks guys for all the info, I was thinking of making an offer on this, thinkI can get it for 200 but I need a Greman 8mm, think I'll grab one of the RCs instead, as soon as the wife becomes less astute. The muzzle rifling and the bolt fit aren't very good with this so I'm not too excited about it.
Hey Stevo, you've got another thing comin', I can hear the pop from seatbelt on the stubby cap when that song runs through my head, nice memories.
cheers,
Mike

Hey Mike,

Best trick in the book. I clean my guns in my work shop. I take two in to clean, I come back with three...the third is the new one I sneak into the gun locker inside.

Fools the warden every time.

My israeli k98k has become my most favorite gun. It also has a few WaA marks on it, as well as the usual IDF markings. Put 2 and 2 together and you have a rifle with alot of character. Very accurate as well, as i usually use skeets as targets at 100yards for a challenge shooting from the kneeling or standing position. If i never hit em, i wouldnt be using a 2moa target ;)

You have a rifle with the great, solid action of the k98, with the ability to shoot 7.62x51/.308.

What more can you ask for?

Actually i will ask, where are you finding this for 200$? Unless the rifling and action are crapped out like you claim, that would be a very good deal.

Nice one! ;) :D

I purchased an Israeli Navy M98k when I bought my Ishapore Mk 2A rifle. The Mk 2A was mostly unfired, but the M98k was a bloody disaster. This rifle had been fired with a lot of corrosive ammo and the bore looked like the surface of the moon.

At the time I bought the Israeli M98k, there was a source of new 7.62 NATO barrels (in the white). By the time I got the rifle, these barrels had gone away. When I inquired about a rifle with better barrel, there weren't any that were any better. I sent the rifle back and got a refund. I figured by the time I fixed the problems on this rifle, I have sunk at least $200 over and above the cost of the rifle.

My Israeli M98k was identical to the one in the picture except it did not have any finish left. Stock was laminated wood, without the takedown hole, and the late war metal butt plate. Most of the external parts were stampings. The "winter" trigger guard was standard. The Israelis did not issue their rifles with the cleaning rod (though the hole was there for it) and the front sight cover was missing.

Thanks for all the information guys. I've decided to pass on this and get either an RC Mauser or a YugoM48b unissued. I need a Mauser. Bad.
And thanks for the hints on dealing with the wife, I'll try one variant or another of them, good stuff there. :D
