Our club has recently resumed ISSF .22 competition shooting. I have been competing with my old High Standard Sport King; and while nowhere near world class; I have done OK within our group, but have seen our members improving by the week. In an effort to stay competitive in the group of Ruger Mk II, III, IV; Beretta Neos; S & W Victory; Browning Buckmark; GSGs; and some really nice revolvers, I felt it was time to upgrade.
Problem was that I have had a chance to shoot or handle all of these pistols, and none really fit all that well, some triggers are better than others, and some just seem to be not all that accurate.
I went shopping yesterday and looked at new and used pistols, and I bought another High Standard; a Sharpshooter M. There were two to chose from at this dealer, an older one with a flat top slide, and a newer one with the rounded top slide; just like my Sport King. The older pistol has a much newer barrel on it, the newer one looks like new; bluing on the barrel and frame are 99.95 %; maybe better; barrel and chamber are like new; so are the sights. It also fits me perfectly, and has that same short take-up and short reset trigger that I have grown to appreciate on my other pistol, that I have owned for about 42 years. Both were priced at $450.00 which was a pleasant surprise as I have looked at other dealers and they were in worse shape and priced at $600-$700.
While it does have crappy custom grips on it now, it also has the original HS target grips with ; and they will be going on it before it goes to the range.
There are a few companies that make after market mags, and the sell for $90-$100 each; the Sport King and Sharpshooter M's mags are interchangeable, so now I also have two mags.
Not new, not showy, not fancy, but I could not be happier. Can't wait to get it home!!
