Hey guys

I have a Vanguard in a .243 and at times I pull the trigger and it doesn't go boom. I've notice this happens a lot in winter if the rifle is really cold and has happened a few times this spring? The primers are being struck but nothing happens, I dump the round and then the next will fire. Same primers from the same lot. Is this an issue with the rifle or my handloads? Any help is appreciated.

If you're anything like me, you may be guilty of oiling too well before putting a rifle away. The oil migrates down into the firing pin hole and gums up the works. I've had that happen a few times. Or it could be a ####ty batch of primers, or maybe you're not seating them fully in the primer pocket. Myself I'd blame it on the rifle being too oily as it happens more when cold.
 
Blast out your firing pin channel with solvent, sounds like a classic case of oil slowing down the firing pin resulting in inconsistent syrikes. Did you ever try to re shoot the rounds that did not go off?
 
Had a new Parker Hale do the same thing 30 years ago. Packing grease in the bolt body slowed down the firing pin, especially when cold, to the point of misfires. Disassemble bolt and clean with solvent. Oil with light weight gun oil, I use synthetic ATF.
