Went shooting with my AA kit for my G17 yesterday, and unlike most of the reviews, found that the performance of the kit was not as expected. I used 3different brands of ammo (ranging from 36 to 40gr) and here are the results:
1) CCI Blazer 40gr- most reliable ammo by far. would reliably shoot and eject 8-9/10 rounds in a clip. about 1-2 shell would eject, but would get pinched by the slide as it came forward (into battery), meaning that i had to pull the slide back slightly, and let the spent shell fall out. Kinda annoying.
2) Federal Premium 36 gr- second most reliable, about 5/10 rounds would shoot and eject properly. 5/10 rounds would either fail to eject or stovepipe. I know that the AA kit warns against using Federal ammo, but what the heck, I wanted to try it.
3) Winchester Target 40gr- I expected this ammo to work well, but it was the most inconsistent by far. Sometimes, there would be 7-10 rounds fired flawlessly, at other times, i had to manually extract every spent round out of the chamber, or a misfeed (crimped shell casing).

i can't comment on the accuracy of the rounds compared to each other, as i was spending a lot of time clearing out the chamber due to the poor performance of #2 and #3. However, when it was working, the Winchester seemed to give me the best groups (at 7m) of < 2 inches.

Anyone experienced any of these issues before? Could it be a case of the slide spring tension needing to be worked in? When i compared the stiffness of the slide recoil spring on the AA kit versus my P22 which feeds every round i have ever tried flawlessly, the spring tension on the P22 was significantly less. I have thought about:
1) Leaving the AA slide open and locked for a day to loosen the spring tension. I may help with the extracted shells being "pinched" when ejected (ie. the slide would come forward a little slower, thereby not pinching the ejected shell).
2) Using a different ammo- any suggestions?
3) Possibly changing my grip? I'm getting a 2 inch 10 shot grouping at 7m- could an improper grip be the cause? My P22 does not exhibit any of these problems though...

I don't mind buying blazer ammo (even if it is more expensive), but the pinching of the ejected casings seems strange, and I cannot find a reliable source of that ammo...

The .22 ammo that i have managed to source locally are:
1) CCI Blazer (sometimes)
2) Federal Premium (most of the time)
3) Winchester 333 (sometimes)
4) Winchester target (sometimes)
5) Federal AE (sometimes, but only in small boxes of 50 rounds)

Any suggestions/ comments are greatly appreciated...

The AA kits are usualy finiki for the first 500 to 1000 rnds.Needs to have a break in period. You might also try using CCI mini mags. They seem to work well in theese kits.Dont get discourage yet and put 1000 rnds threw it.If it doesnt help then i dont know what else you can do.

None of the brands you list function worth spit in my AA kit. Both CCI Mini-mags and Remington Golden Bullets work very well, with Rem. Thunderbolts coming in a close second. The T-Bolts foul up pretty good after a couple hundred rounds.

I've got well over 1k through my kit and it's still picky.

I picked up 2k of Rem. Golden Bullets in Edmonton on the weekend for about $30/500.

I had good results with CCI Minimags, Winchester SuperX 40 gr. and Rem Golden 36 & 40 gr. AA Doesn't recommend Federal, PMC, target ammo and they turned out to be right in my case. Try a few more brands of 40 gr. high velocity. I'm sure you'll find a flavour that suits.

The cheapest ammo I have found that functions flawlessy in my AA kit is sold at Walmart. Winchester 333s. Dynapoints work excellent as well. This is after the initial break-in period with the recommended ammo such as the Remington Golden bullets.

+1 for the CCI mini mags. They work flawlessly in mine. Don't forget to keep it clean and well oiled. It likes to be quite a bit wetter than a stock Glock.

Not that you should give up now, but when I thought about buying the same kit for mine I realized I could get a nice ruger mark3 in whatever model suits you best on the E/E for around 400 bucks. So now I have a nice little .22 gun and my g17. I bought this hunter stainless on the site here for 400 bucks. But again, you may like shooting .22 out of your glock so I'm just suggested an alternative if it get's to that point.

I use the cheap junk too in my AA kit with np. Sounds like a lack off lube, When your gun gets tired lube her up for another round :)

High velocity ammo works best, mina does OK with wildcat (even though it's dirty) and will usually go 300rds before I need to oil it/wipe it down.

Since the slide/gun is so darn light, it is VERY sensible to limp wristing. The 'pinch' shells are caused by the slide to going back far enough/fast enough for the ejector to do its job. Get a good grip (two hands if needed) and try it again.

Mine 'acted' up for the first few hundred rounds... but is working fine now.

++ on the Remington Goldens or Target. Either are completely reliable and cheap.

American Eagle, Blazer, Federal and Winchester were problematic in my AA kit.

------- on the Thunderbolts.... Leads up the barrel something fierce.

My kit I can consistently hit a shotgun clay (on the berm) at 50 meters.
I love that thing.

hmmm, ok, so it sounds like i need to try different ammo and more lube, as well as shoot her for a little while longer for break in. 500-1000 rounds will be a challenge :)

anyone know where to get Golden Bullets or Remington Target in the GVRD? don't recall ever seeing them in Walmart or CT...

also, where are you guys lubing up your pistols? slide? feedramp?

A few drop of oil behind the ejector and the slide rail...

Just pretend you are doing a PPC match (or some other target games), you'll see how fast it is to go through a brick!

Heck, you could use your 'jamming' issue as an opportunity to practice your 'clear-jam' drill...

Had some feed/eject issues with my GF's AA .22 kit for a G17, we tried most of the mentioned ammo's, but had most success with the Remington Yellow Jackets (hyper velocity). These are hollow point though and sometimes had feeding issues, but it was 3 misfeeds or so to a box of 50. (haven't tried the CCI's yet)

Also, cleaned and lubed as often as possible... Like after each use... This helps a lot...

thanks all. i managed to pick up some remington thunderbolts on the weekend, and had much better results (approx. 1-3 fte in 50). pricy ammo though, it was $35 for a box of 500...

+1 on CCI mini-mags. They function flawlessly in my G17 AA kit.

I prefer the 40grain round nose. ww w.cci-ammunition.com/ballistics/detail.aspx?loadNo=0030
