My surplus supply has been steadily drying up, so I began the transition to non-corrosice 7.62x39. I shot Barnaul, DA, MFS at 100 meters. What I found is that Barnaul and MFS kinda sucks in the accuracy department compared to Czech surplus. Anyone else had similar experiences using their SKS's or VZ58's?

Haven't shot Barnaul but MFS definitely is sub par in my experience too. Czech and Romanian surplus shoot fine.

My SVT 40. Absolutely hates MFS... Accuracy wise,
I've had excellent results from DA LCW non corossive in my SKS. But unfortunately it's no longer available in stores :(

Sad thing is, there are many shooters with such an aversion and unrealistic trepidation towards corrosive ammo that they'll take inaccurate ammo over the necessary diligent cleaning.

My experince has been exactly the same as yours. I love corrosive Czech ammo and not just the smell :)

Edit: I was using it with a RA XCR-L not Com Bloc guns.

Am I the only one here who doesn't clean his SKS after shooting corrosive ammo because shooting a box of 20 rounds before you stop shooting and go home deletes everything that was corrosive? How come nobody does that, it does work.. First you make sure you coat your SKS with non corrosive powder, then shoot all your corrosive ammo and finish with non corrosive = no rust, ever.

I never clean my SKS and there is no rust anywhere.

Is this true ?

Why even risk it. It says CORROSIVE right on the box. Do really want any part of your firearm to corrode?

Takes 5 min to clean no big deal to me
czech surplus has been the most accurate for me so far. I just bought a crate of norinco 1440 in a green crate and have not tried it yet.
Have some 51 era russian surplus that is just plain crap(think 12 moa) no matter what gun shoots it .
will take accuracy over non corrosive

I have had a couple of batches of non corrosive surplus ammo that were quit accurate in anything I shot it out of.

South African, Israeli and some other stuff I believe was made in Finland. All the case had on it was a date stamp The crate had what appeared to be Cyrillic lettering with the same date stamp and Nato stickers.

Sadly I only have a crate of the South African left. As far as the other two, I picked them both up from a now deceased friend along with a couple of crates of Radway Green 7.62x51 and 9x19. I have no idea where he picked it up. The South African came out of Lever Arms back when Alan used to run it and he only had a few crates that came in with some other stuff. I bought two of the five crates he had on hand. In hind sight I should have bought all of it but a shortage of funds held me back.

I tried some Barnaul in my SKS and a Mini 30. It did go bang and fed/ejected well but I was lucky to get the bullets all on target at 100yds. Same for the MFS offering and to top it off, it left so much powder residue behind that it was more difficult to clean than any corrosive I have come across.

As far as shooting non corrosive before and after shooting corrosive, I tried it and it does slow the corrosion down. I watched it closely for a few weeks and after 1-12 days I got a slightly rusty patch and by the 14th day it was definitely rusting.

Maybe the fellow from Quebec shoots a lot or he lives in a very dry area??

I think it has to do with the registry ...even rust has left the province.
