First sit of the season and I passed on this guy - for whatever reason it just did not feel right. I just hope it does not come back to bite in in the butt at the end of the season. I am not a trophy hunter, but for some reason the voice in my head said let him walk.

On the up side my buddy was across the street on the same property had a small doe walk right under his stand - from what we we can see (and the cell game cameras show) the numbers are looking very good this year.

For me it just being out in/on a stand enjoying the silence is what does it for me - i think, it wasn't his time yet - as blargon wrote there is lots of time yet enjoy the season

More than once in a season an animal goes by me and all I do is point my finger at it and whisper " Bang". You know it was a shot you could of made you just did not want collect an animal that day. Even if you never get another chance that season it is still a success. Last few years I have not even bought a liscense and just go for hikes now and then. Last year in Oct I shot a beautiful mature bull moose at less than 50 yards with my finger and this year I shot another young bull moose at 150 yards with the same gun. lol....

I did that last year and ended up with nothing. I wont be chancing it again this year. First chance I get I need to fill the freezer....Hopefully it works out better for you than it did for me.

I did the same last year and bagged a big doe at the end of October and this guy during the controlled hunt. I am not worried - even with a clean knife I am still successful!

Sweet - thanks for posting! Looks like a chipshot. You using a bow?

I don't like getting my shop floor dirty so I've been passing for many years.

Plus you gotta skin and butcher and package and freeze.Too much like work!

I shot a yearling bull elk and a mule deer in archery season. The issue in archery season is the temps tend to be too warm so I ended up gutting, skinning and deboning them both. I also had to gut and skin my wife's moose. I would pass on a lot of Whitetail at this point. I've handled a lot of meat already.
