Hello,

I'm looking for information on what the range is for proper functioning for the real Italian M1 Garands. I have one, and I think the spring is pooched. It measures 19" long. Getting failure to feed now and then. Everything is cleaned and lubed properly. I have a spare high power Wolf spring for 30-06 that I'd like to use, but they are supposed to be too long for 30-06 and need to be trimmed. It measures just under 21.5" long. I was wondering how long it would have to be trimmed to fit in the shortened 308, Italian version for proper functioning?

Anyone know?

Cheers,

Ian

The Tipo 2 Garand 7.62 barrel is .5 inch shorter than the standard Garand barrel, so I subtract .5 inch from the .30-06 Garand op rod spring. The length for the Tipo 2 is therefore 19.25 inch minimum- 19.75 inch maximum. I trim mine to 19.25 inches using a Dremel cut off wheel and they work OK.

I got an Italian 7.62 op rod for mine and had to shorten the spring 1/2 in.
