I'm getting a little antsy.

I was drawn for both moose and elk this fall here in Saskatchewan and I can't wait to get out in the field. This will be my first moose and elk hunt and I feel like a kid on Christmas eve.

With this in mind, who is starting to get ready for their moose or elk hunt this fall? As well, lets start talking about kit and what you plan on using for your rifle.

Me first~

I'll be using my Stainless Marlin 45/70 Guide Gun with peep sights. Next weekend my friend and I plan on working on loads and sighting it in a bit high at 100 yard.

As for gear, I believe we're going to be camping with a guide tent and a wood stove. We plan on going in October so who knows what kind of weather to expect. My axe and knife are already sharp and ready to go. My hunting cloths are hanging in the basement and the rucksak is right next to them.

What are you doing to get ready?

Yes, the days are drawing near. I'm headed off on a 12-day backpack hunt for Dall sheep in three weeks and I've got the STW shooting like a dream and I've been working hard on conditioning and breaking a new set of boots in. Off on a little three-day jaunt this weekend!

I keep my stuff 'prepared' at all times and keep equipment lists from one year to the next so I don't forget anything.
Scouting the area on foot with a good set of maps is the most important preparation you can make. If that's not possible, air photos help a lot. Good luck!

Going to Matane from the 16th - 20th of September. Taking my Sako AIII 30-06 and my Browning BAR .308 as a back-up. Currently working on some loads. I have not started staging my gear yet but will soon.
